This low-profile straw bale house centers on a skylit, kiva-like ceremonial space, and wraps the living spaces around this element.
To minimize the visual impact of the house, the structure was envisioned as surrounded by earth berms, which rest against gabions (rock filled heavy wire cages) instead of the concrete walls normally used in such situations.
A heavy timber roof structure supports a bale insulated living roof. Designed with Dan Smith.
